So after some arguments with Ndo2, and some debugging this is my Entrance room floor normal map. I have had fun making this, Although it has taken a little longer than I wanted due to getting a solid base design I am pleased with the result. Next I need to create the other maps needed such as the AO & Diffuse, so that is is ready to be textured.
As this concept piece is based on a spaceship I have gone for plated sheets of metal, this seems to work well with the whole theme and it is very logical as it is a practical method of maintaining a ship so that crew can easily access cables, plumbing and electronics.
Next step is to continue to run through with this theme on the rest of the floor and then texture them. The best thing is, if I use the colour ID maps I can quickly save materials and reproduce the them on a for another UV map with a few clicks of a button. Just to show you how I will do this take a look at this video and watch from around the 9 minute mark.
